Ipercast has been a trusted third party for Hollywood Major studios and Music Labels for many years. As a result,
a number of them have asked us to integrate territory-based copyright management processes into our infrastructure.
The management of geolocation and geoblocking processes can be implemented at various levels (depending on the client’s requirements) :
At CAS level (ICAW)
All content access is closed by default and all users must first transit via one of the
client’s websites to gain access. The intelligent processes applied to grant or refuse access are then relocated on the client side. The client
may include any criteria of their choice, for instance territorial-based copyright management or specific accessible time slots.
At IP level
On multimedia broadcast machines, via an IP blocking system, with redirection towards an
«access denied» site informing users why they cannot access the intended content. GeoIP, the database used in this configuration, is one of
the leading solutions in this field. It is updated by technical teams on a daily basis.
At DRM level
Licence allocation is conditional to compliance with a set of rules, which may include geoblocking.
These systems are highly customizable
and can be configured based on a set of fixed rules (e.g. authorized countries / prohibited countries).
